Post 8. Fieldwork Ends

In the latter weeks of the archaeological survey, Hunter Research completed additional excavation units away from the foundation to target possible outbuilding sites and early yard deposits. Archaeologists dug west of the foundation to examine a possible barn or outbuilding, but other than a single posthole found no evidence.  The excavations did reveal a deeper, circular pit feature, measuring 4.6 feet in diameter and 2.3 feet deep. The pit had overlapping deposits of sandy loam with shell flecking but its purpose remains unclear. Field investigations ended on January 31, 2025.
