Hydrant Flushing

Fire Hydrants are flushed during the month of April at various sites throughout the service territory. This is done primarily to remove any accumulated mineral sediment in a controlled fashion. It may briefly cause discoloration of the water in your neighborhood and, while this may be unappealing to the eye, the water is completely safe. Flushing is conducted between 9:30 PM and 11:30 PM on weekday evenings to minimize any inconvenience. Ridgewood Water recommends that you avoid clothes washing during the limited periods when flushing takes place.
